I have to log in twice.

The first time my profile is rejected, the second time it is accepted. This is very consistant. I have made sure my info is correct, but it alway rejects my first attempt.

Otherwise its a great board

Bowsandarrows,

I was checking through the logs looking for the cause of your problem and nothing jumped out at me. If you get a chance, next time this happens, please take a quick note of the time displayed by the board (upper left hand corner of the main page). This will help me narrow down the log entries. Also, let me know what browser you are using.

blackswan555,

YES, I had the same issue with this site over the past weekend.

Had thought that it was just me, but nice to know that it was NOT just my breath or something.

By Monday AM it was fixed. This site seems VERY SENSITIVE regarding how one interfaces to it -- much more so than any other Forum that I visit. Vic

EDIT: Had wondered if there was something that I'd done to restrict my access to the site, so that I could change that thing/those things, but since no reply, must not be at all important.

Strangeness report:

I posted a few days ago (by The Electron on Tue Jun 09, 2009 9:54 am ) and in the box where you are actually typing your post, about halfway through my composing, suddenly the text in the box would get jumpy and the lowest line of text would get shoved down just out of sight - as if I grabbed the bar to the right with my mouse and moved the view up just one notch. With each keystroke, the text would act as if it was suddenly "jarred". I could stop typing at any time, grab the aforementioned bar with my mouse and shove up the text to reveal the line I was typing on, but when I started typing that line would get immediately shoved down again out of sight. I could continue to type, and the characters were all being added accurately, but you couldn't see them as you typed. Then when I was just about done, it went back to normal. Then it did it again on the last few words. I'm using IE8.

I haven't been on since until now, posted today, no problems. FYI.

Thanks!

Electron,

The website doesn't control how the browser renders the page. Until you press one of the three buttons at the bottom of the submission box, it's all your browser. With IE8 being so new, I'm not surprised you're seeing problems -- I have nothing but grief using IE8, not that I use it as much as I use Firefox ...

I notice the Board index taking forever to load. Seems the (twitter?) icon (all I get is a red "x") might be it? I have modest security settings and just browsed a bunch elsewhere with no prob.
Take care!

Electron,

I was running some pretty big backups on the database prior to today's upgrade, this would make for some slow load times. I will be doing the same tonight and Sat. now that things are updated, so expect a few more slow downs.

Just some feedback - I'm still getting long load times. I have to wait forever (10 secs with DSL) for the twitter link, it doesn't display properly anyway, never has for me. Could be on my end - but so far browsing elsewhere is fine.

Electron,

I vote the problem is on your end. The only problem I have is that I get logged out. But once I'm logged in again it works great.

As an aside, the link in your signature doesn't work. Net-10 (all IP addresses starting with "10") is an unroutable private network. The problem you're having could be related to that, if your local IP address is the same as in the signature.

The Recent Post section has been something I've been working on getting back up for awhile. It was working well on the testing server, but when implemented on the live one, there was a database load issue.

It's back to testing to see if it was the problem or not.

Scott,

Is the database purely an issue of I/O load, or have you made sure that your database has all the appropriate indexes built?

Feel free to drop me a PM if you want to talk about computer configurations.

Ok, I've waited to post this until I was convinced it was consistant:

I come to this site and I'm still logged in, as per the check mark.

As soon as I select a 'topic', I'm logged out.

I log in, check the box to "remember" and it's fine the rest of the day and it doesn't seem to make any difference how many times I leave and come back.

Then the next day, I come here, am logged in, go to a topic, and I'm logged out.

Oops. Disregard what I said in the previous post about not being logged out for the rest of the day. I just came back to the forum and was logged in. I selected this topic and was logged out.

I regularly delete all cookies and cache info. Is that why when I check the automatic sign in button it never works. i.e. I have to sign in every time.

Re: Topics created by Opera10 disappear

Post by LorenAmelang » Wed Oct 28, 2009 8:09 pm

My first two tries at posting "FM80 stuck at low power on second day of use" seemed to be successful, but the topics never appeared on the forum. I thought maybe they needed moderator approval or something, but I couldn't find any confirmation of that.

Turns out topics created using Opera10 just disappear. I can use the editor, preview the post, set all the options, and Submit the page, but I get dumped directly back to the forum topic I was posting to, no confirmation message, no display of the new topic. But no error message or obvious problem, either.

As you can (I assume) see above, I can Reply from Opera, but I tried to create a similar "Test" topic in Website & Forum using Opera, and it apparently disappeared.

Short of making this work properly, maybe you could add a note telling us that if we don't see our new topic displayed in a new window immediately after clicking Submit, it probably isn't going to appear anywhere ever, and we need to try a different browser...

Loren
