AUX ports in the Flexpower One

Postby raysun on Wed Dec 06, 2017 11:23 am

AFIK my FlexPower One has 3 AUX ports: one each on the FX3048T, FlexMAX80, and Mate3. The AUX ports on the inverter and charge controller are factory configured to run their internal cooling fans. This leaves a single AUX port on the Mate3 to controll external devices - typically a generator in an AGM scheme.

Questions:

Is there a way to make additional AUX ports available on a FlexPower One?

Is it possible to repurpose the AUX ports on the inverter and charge controller by removing the fans, and putting the fans on some sort of thermostatic control?

That is interesting. I haven't heard anyone doing such thing but no one can stop you from trying O:) just keep in mind modifying may void the warranty.

FLEXpower one systems also come equipped with a FLEXnet DC monitor which also has a Aux relay (dry contacts) that can be controlled by either voltage or state of charge.

Jorge,

Thanks for the response. I overlooked the FNDC AUX port. As to the AUX ports on the inverter and charge controller, it seems OB took a bit of a design "shortcut" by fitting them with fans (as opposed to having a separate, dedicated circuit for fan control) thereby making the ports unavailable for other, potentially higher-value functions. Just a thought for future designs.

Since you have a sealed inverter, those models come with an internal fan and external (which uses the aux to power it) as opposed to a vented model only comes with an internal fan thus freeing up the aux terminal. Give/take situation.

Radian Inverters were designed with that in mind and come with dual AUX terminals.

btw - the charge controller has an additional 12v AUX terminal apart from the internal cooling fan.
