Hi guys i have an issue with my FM 80 , the controller jumps from bulk to float , no absorption time at normal charge cycles.

What other equipment do you have in your system? Are you off grid or grid-tied? What do you mean by "at normal charge cycles"?

If you fill in your system profile it will make it easier for the forum to help you.

9 Solar World 300 watts mono panels
1 FM 80
1 6k Sigineer inverter 48vdc
16 Alpha Cell 114ah 12v Agm Batt

Normal charge cycles means (not equalizing)
I know 3 other guys the FM 80 do it the same problem.
Temperature these days are in the 90-92┬░ F range.

Are the panels wired as 3 series strings?

The battery is 4 series strings of monoblocks, correct?

How many sun hours does your location average daily?

On the FM80 what are the following settings values:
Absorb voltage
Absorb time
Absorb end Amps

Try setting the Absorb End Amps to 0 (zero).

I'm confused. Your profile says "My RE system: Flexmax 80, Schneider Sw 4024 inverter , 6 Solar World 340XL Mono, 4 Deka 370ah batts".

The Schneider system is my home, the Sigineer is my neighbor house.

I'm trying to understand how you've determined that there's no absorb stage occurring. Are you watching the FM80'S LCD display when it jumps from bulk to float? If not, what leads you to believe there's no absorb?

With the settings that you have, I can't think of a reason that your system doesn't have an absorb period. Even if you reset end amps to zero as Raysun suggests, the end amps setting comes into play only after absorb voltage has been reached.

This is a shot in the dark, but make sure the absorb voltage setting on your FM80 is at least 0.2 volts higher than the setting on your Schneider inverter.

Thanks for the reply, in the day history Absorb time =0
Float time 7.46, OFF Grid , inverter charger not enable , this happens another 3 guys i knew. These days are very hot here.

Does the battery bank drop below 49.6V at night? The controller does not add Absorb time unless the battery voltage gets low enough per this chart:
FM_Absorb_Timer.PNG
See pages 20-21 of the manual for more details http://www.outbackpower.com/downloads/d ... manual.pdf

Kurt,

Are you saying that if the battery never drops below 49.6V, the charger will never enter the Absorb cycle?

The answer is yes and no. The first time the controller is turned on and programmed the charge timer (ChgT in the MISC Menu) will be 0000. Once the battery voltage is at or above Absorb the ChgT will count up minutes until it meets your programmed Absorb time. If you have 4 hrs Absorb programmed the ChgT will count up to 0240 (240 minutes) then exit the Absorb cycle assuming there is enough sunlight/power. If the battery bank does not drop below 49.6V the next day the ChgT will still be 0240. If the ChgT is full then the system does not need to spend time in Absorb.

So the short answer is the FM will Absorb to your programmed time the first time you run it, then it will only Absorb as much as it thinks it needs to based off the chart I posted earlier.

Keep an eye on the ChgT in the MISC Menu for Absorb time details. While in the MISC menu if you press NEXT then BULK the ChgT will reset to 0000 and the controller will start a new Bulk/Absorb cycle.

Hope this helps.

Kurt,

That quite succinctly describes a good bit of the behavior, myself, and I think others, have been scratching our heads over.

It would be great if this exact info found it's way into a sticky post in the FlexMax forum.
