My Outback System...

Postby JRHill on Wed Nov 18, 2015 6:37 pm

...requires me to unplug > replug the mate3 several times a day to have OpticsRE work. Thank the Lord I'm not traveling and am at home to play.

One of these days Optics RE will become a paid, subscription service. I suspect they will forget who helped get it to production and market.

This is the same for all cloud based services. People, these days, jump into this and support it like there is no tomorrow. Of course when the bill starts it's only a few dollars more and they are already hooked and can't live without it.

I try to stay independent from cloud services as much as possible. The Raspberry Pi and software for that is a good alternative in many cases. You can leave this little computer on ad it only takes about 5-10 watts of power.

I would suggest you update the firmware again and enable the automated daily reboot feature on the mate3.

Hope this helps

Current firmware is 3.011, the reboot was implemented as advised at that time. Are you saying that the update should be done again?

Correct. Update the firmware again. Also, make sure the CAT5 cable is properly connected. How long is your run to the HUB?

Outback Hub to Mate3 is a 50' Cat5, the excess 12' is loosely coiled. 6' Cat5 to the Internet. OK, I'll redo the firmware update directly from the site but it doesn't appear there have been any maintenance updates since.

Thx for your input,
Jim

OK, Done. Hoping.

Can the Outback folks see an Optics RE profile > dashboard? It would seem you could if you had the ID.

Best,
Jim

Firmware updated again right after your comment above was received. The Mate3 lost its connection at ~11pm, reconnected itself after the auto reboot, then lost the connection again around 1am. Reconnected at 6am and went until 3:30pm That's the way it's always been. I work from home so and I spend my day connected. There is no problem with my connection except for satellite latency.

Also, wanted to clarify "HUB" in that I have a 50' cable to the Outback hub and a 5' cable to my internet hub with a 30' cable to the Satellite modem. All Cat5.
