Panels not producing watts on controller

Postby elvispone on Sat Apr 28, 2012 8:11 am

I have 12 100 watt panels wired in series of three to make 60 volts per string. Three panels wired in series. It makes four parallel connections going into the combiner box . I have the flexware 500 with 80 amp charge controller and it only sees about 500 watts on a good day of sun. The panel are about 40 feet from the controller with # 6 copper wire going to the charge controller. I was wondering why I only see 500 watts on a good day of sun. My battery bank is 24 volt consisting of 12, 2 volt batteries having 1250 amp hours. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, this is my post here, I 'm trying to catch up with the forum.

Supposing you have made the whole setup by yourself, are you sure that ALL panels are connected using the same polarity? If yes, then I suggest you measure all diodes in the panels' connection boxes. Try to do it night time, disconnect the diodes from box, if necessary.
A second thought: Use a voltmeter to check the voltage on each panel.
A third thought: Use an amp meter on each array.

The (V total x Amp total) should give you the absolute wattage.
