National Solar Tour

Fellow Outbackers! Because of the pandemic, the American Solar Energy Society's annual solar tour will be conducted "virtually" this year. You can host your system's virtual tour site by uploading photos, videos or whatever. And the good news is you don't have to be an ASES member to participate!

I have hosted my site both through my local state RE organization (Green Energy Ohio) and ASES pretty much every year since 2010. This will be different but maybe a bit easier and more convenient to do.

I urge all of you to check out ASES's website and add your site to the tour this year. And consider posting your Outback forum "alias" somewhere with your tour site so we can say, "I know that guy/gal"!

Looking forward to seeing you all on the tour!

EA6LE - If you're interested then I wouldn't let that stop you from participating. You've got a pretty impressive system that I'm sure many would enjoy seeing, regardless of your location. - Mike

Edit: I just inquired the tour organizers about this. Stay tuned!

Agreed. Most of us have less than a utility-scale system, so it's fun to see the behemoth OB installations.

I heard from ASES regarding participation from international "solarists" (anybody have a better term for us?), specifically with regard to my comment to EA6LE-ONE:

"So you gave him the right advice. If he is interested, we would love to have a video (& photos, etc.) from him."

Well, the ASES virtual tour officially starts on September 28th, but here's an advance look at my tour site video: https://youtu.be/EBJsfM1KiL0

When I get a link to the overall tour I'll post it in this thread. Enjoy!

Hello Mike

Nice setup.

Too late to join the virtual tour this year but I would be willing to post my system for people to see and comment on.

The winter here in Ontario sucks as well Mike. Lake effect snow is brutal. December, January and February are pretty much on the grid.

Going to have trouble with neighbours tree in a few years. May get the engineering done to put bi-facial panels on the roof of the house.

Will see how things work out in the next few years.
