Re: Recommendation for New Batteries?

I'd like to hear how things are going or how they went with your (and other posters',too) decisions for batteries since the was started so long ago... I'll have a new array up in the next four to six months. It's a ground array for a 4kw system using two GVFX3524. I'm really considering a for...

Electric Coop doesn't pay for any KWH's above what you use..

I ran across a home this morning while out going to a local community wide garage sale. It had a 2500 watt roof top system with a Sunnyboy grid tie inverter. The owner said they were tied into an electric company that was a Coop here in Texas. This Coop has a use KWH meter and a buy-back meter. As I...

Help with LP gas backup generator selection

As I get started on my solar project, I'd appreciate some input on size, brand, and model of a backup generator that will smoothly work with Outback's GVFX inverters. I'll have three ground arrays of panels, two with new panels and one 1600 watt set of non-UL stamped panels made from purchases and b...

"LIFE" gets in the way

For the last 4 years, I've been buying the panels, equipment, and materials for a DIY 3.5kw mainly off grid system. I have eight L16 batteries on a weekly charge routine to carry all my 120v needs. The local Co-op will be supply my 220v needs for a deep water well, kitchen range, and the needs for m...

West of Ft. Worth. Is it hot enough for you? Because I'm seeing pretty close to 110F here. Yes, way too hot.... It seems that temps on the Interstate as well as areas in town are heating and staying higher than the open country. Yesterday, in a new bypass in town, actual temp was 111. West of Ft. W...

Re: 2 GVFX3524 for all 110v circuits.

Perhaps if you explained why you want to have the workshop powering the house's 120 volt circuits I could understand why you're trying to do this. Otherwise it's just a bad idea. The batteries and inverters will have to be out in the shed I'm building because 1800 watts of the project are from pane...

Re: 2 GVFX3524 for all 110v circuits.

I've learned that since the GVFX 3524 doesn't like to have pass-through grid power, while using an X-240 transformer, I'm just trying to get power from the inverters to the 110/120 volt house circuits using the 8 L-16 batteries. Sorry, if I've listed it as 110v, it's only because I've always called ...

"But first, I need to know what your actual electric service is like. There are very few 110/120 volt single phase systems out there. Most everything is 120/240 or 110/220." First of all, I have two electric meters... One goes to the house and is 100amp 220v. The second one is at the back of the lo...

Tallgirl,

First, thanks for the help. Second, that 3510 is some crazy keyboard habits as that is part of my home address....

So, if both inverters are used for all the 110v circuits, after they are wired to the batteries, what's the best way to stack them?

Re: 2 GVFX3524 for all 110v circuits.

Any help from the company guys on these two questions? My questions: I will have grid power to the GVFX's as pass through power only if my batteries don't get a full day's charge. So if/when there is a day where the inverters can't supply all the needed power, and they stop pulling from the battery ...

2 GVFX3524 for all 110v circuits.

Here is some history, first.... The way I have my electric company wired to the house, I can separate my big heavy 220v loads so they are serviced only by the grid. They are major loads with high start-up amps like a 250ft well, a 500ft deep well, a large Trane 1800 system A/C compressor, a cookstov...

Re: Use a GVFX3524 for Off Grid?

Just to help clarify the whole panel system, on a FM 80 controller, there are 1560w from Kyocera panels on the large satellite tracking works. Then 1800w are a fixed roof mount from 30 Kaneka on their own FM 80 controller. All these are to be up and going this summer Somewhere down the line, a small...

Thanks for the offer, Julie, but I don't want to become involved with this Co-Op other than the monthly automatic draft for my electrical bill.... Re: Use a GVFX3524 for Off Grid?

Thank you Julie, So, it comes down to no backup battery power if the grid is down? Then, in what instance would one need batteries for this inverter if it does that? Re: Use a GVFX3524 for Off Grid?

Yes it can have a tie to the grid. I say that because, ideally, I would want it to provide as much power from the batteries as possible, but if the load happens to go passed the inverter rating/battery level, I'd like the grid power to come in behind the battery output and seamlessly carry the load....

Re: Use a GVFX3524 for Off Grid?

Kent, Thank you for your reply, too. The reason I "Had" to go with the 24v system was due to a "windfall" of sorts. Between Christmas and New Years, the company, Real-Goods, ran a sale on the Kaneka 60w panels. They were being sold for $39.99, plus the shipping was free. In the end, I have 30 of the...

Re: Use a GVFX3524 for Off Grid?

I'm not sure I understand what everyone has said. I'll have at least a 3kw solar panel system, with about half fixed and half on a tracker. I have some older panels and China panels that amount to another 1100 watts, but they aren't planned to be used this year on a second tracker. I don't really wa...

Use a GVFX3524 for Off Grid?

Will the GVFX3524 work for an off grid system (in the beginning) if not hooked to the grid?

I will be using eight L-16hc U S Battery 420 ah batteries and a friend said he thought that if the the grid goes down, this inverter won't let the batteries run the inverter load.

Thanks for the help,
Bill
